Central University of Jammu celebrates International Youth Day

On the theme of “Eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable protection & environment” Dean Student’s Welfare office of Central University of Jammu celebrates International Youth Day-16 in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development here today at its Temporary Academic Block (TAB), Sainik Colony, Jammu.

The programme was formally inaugurated by lightening the ceremonial lamp by Prof. Ashok Aima Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu and Prof. Devanand, Dean Student’s Welfare along with other Heads of different departments of Central University of Jammu.   The students of department of Education also recited “Sarswati Vandana” before inauguration of the programme.

While giving his presidential address, Prof. Ashok Aima said that India is a nation of young people and these young people must seek energy for constructive purpose of the society. He said “energy is a kind of force to achieve your goal and use your energy for the overall development of the society and nation building”. He asked the students to develop a calendar for your life, only then you can understand the purpose of life.

Furthermore he said, today youth should take the mantle of leadership. Leadership not to achieve power but for sustainable development of the society. He asked them not to undermine each other and develop a spirit of compassion, understanding & humanism. He also stressed on the liberation of mind from superstitions and ask to focus on the self-respect to achieve own identity.

Earlier, Prof. Devanand, Dean Student’s Welfare, while welcoming the students, faculty & staff in the programme threw light on the importance of International Youth Day and explained that every year “12 August” recognize efforts of world youth in enhancing the global society. He said, “sustainable consumption involves the use of products and services that meet the basic needs of communities and also safeguard the needs of future generations”.  

The programme was compered by Ms. Prabjyot Kour student of department of English and formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sweta Kohli, Asst. Professor in the Department of Economics.

The three types of competitions were held in the International Youth Day i.e. Seminar, Photo exhibition and Poster making. In the Photography competition Mr. Bhavya (MCNM) and Mr. Ashish Kohli (MCNM) adjudged as 1st and 2nd while Ms. Monika (Education) declared as 3rd. prize distribution.  In the Seminar Competition Ms. Prabhjyot Kour (English) adjudged as 1st and Ms. Akanksha Sharma (Botony) as 2nd position and while there was a tie for the 3rd position between Ms. Aisha Shabir (Zoology) and Mr. Mahvish Jan (CSIT).

In the poster making competition Mr. Kanika Verma of department of Animal Science & Wild Life declared as 1st but for the 2ndposition Ms. Manvi Sharma (Chemistry) and Ms. Harsimpreet Kour (Botony) both declared as winner and Ms. Archana Sharma (PPPA) declared as winner for 3rd position.
