Five Days Training Workshop on ICT in Education and Learning

The Centre for the Teacher Resource and Academic Support and Centre for the Learning and Pedagogics Studies, School of Education, Central University of Jammu, under PMMMNMT in collaboration with CIET and NCERT organized five days training workshop for teachers and teacher’s educator from 9 to 13th January 2017. The purpose of workshop was to acquaint teachers and teacher educators regarding usage, development and integration of ICTin teaching learning process. Around 55 teachers from various DIET’s of Jammu division and scholars of School of Education, CUJ were apprised and trained in various ICT resources that can be used in making teaching and learning process active and lively for students and easy for teachers.


The event was blessed with the presence of Prof.Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor of CUJ, Prof. Lokesh Verma, Head&Dean, School of Education, CUJ, Prof. A.P. Behera, Head, DICT-TD, CIET,Dr Yashpal Sharma(CIET), Dr Angel (CIET), Dr MomurAli (CIET) ,Dr. J. N. Baliya, Dr. Ritu Bakshi, Dr. Kiran Dr Parmod and Dr. Aman Bhardwaj and faculty members Central University of Jammu.


Prof. Lokesh Verma, in his welcome address highlighted the need of integrating ICT in education and stressed that under PMMMNMTT, we are given responsibility of upliftment of quality of education and school of education is obliged to provide every possible man and material support for the same. He also elaborated upon Shodhganga and Shodhgangotri which are open research resources accessible to all. He also stressed on bridging the gaps between national and state level agencies for effective integration of ICT in the schools.


Prof. Ashok Aima, VC of CUJ, in valedictory address appreciated the efforts of School of Education, CUJ for taking keen interest in organising workshops and skill development programme for teachers who are the backbone of educational system. He emphasised on bringing the technology to the doorstep of each and every child so that they can have access to the vast array of knowledge. He further added that technology has redefined the role of teacher and teacher must be prepared to accept the challenge and make themselves technology resilient. He also highlighted on the need of creating the core groups of technologists at local and state level to maximize the outcomes of the efforts put in the workshop.


Earlier briefing about the significance of workshop Dr J.N. Baliya Coordinator, Centre for Teacher Resources and Academic Support informed that the various sessions of workshop have helped the teachers to understand the specific techniques of creating and employing the e-resources in the classroom situations.
Dr. Angel Rathnabai, Assistant Professor, CIET, while stressing the need of ICT in education curriculum called for making teaching and learning process livelier and engrossing for students by making effective use of interactive technologies available. She impressed upon the creation of state e-portals so that the state books are converted into e-resources and which should be one point access to all the stakeholders.


Importance of mobile technology in teaching learning process was highlighted by Dr. Yash Pal, Assistant Professor, CIET. He also discussed about various mobile apps such as e-pathshala, vidya-mitra developed by NCERT and CIETs for school and university education which are available for android, OS and window phones. He gave hands on knowledge about operating these portals on mobile like downloading books, live streaming of videos and audios if you are a teacher or parents or a student. He also gave insights about the copyright issues and creative commons which should be taken care of while accessing the e-resources.


The workshop included various technical sessions on enhancing the awareness and knowledge level of the participants about open education resources (OER) and National repository of open educational resources (NROER) was provided to the teacher educators. Ways to access and developing open educational resources was also provided by Dr. Angel Rathnabai. She also helped the teacher educators in developing instructional material based on ADDIE model.


Dr. Yash Pal gave knowledge about MOOC’s, EdeX, SDSN, Coursera, Moodle and Meta studio through which one can have access to thousands of online courses worldwide. He also discussed about SWAYAM, initiative of MHRD-GoI, which is offering various online courses for school education and higher education.


The workshop had special sessions on the effective use of various mobile and online apps and softwares like Freemap, Audacity, openshot, sky view, Anatomy4D, Quiver etc. which can be used for developing e resources. The hands- on practice sessions made the participants Pore engrossed in the activities organised by the resource persons. Dr Yash Pal gave knowledge about developing the Timeline online which can be used to develop and share pictures, theory and videos online. He also gave knowledge about various mobile apps which can be used for making videos. Dr. Mohd. Mamur Ali(CIET), gave the detailed description about software Hotpotato to develop assessment material. He also gave knowledge about developing Info-graphics on Easelly, creating geometric figures on Tuxmath and 3D chemistry equations on Avogadro which was followed by hands on practise of these software’s by teacher educators.


Presentations of the developed e-resources such as concept map, subject specific educational e-modules and videos were also made by the participants. Dr Kiran compeered the proceedings of the day and Dr. J.N. Baliya presented the vote of thanks.
