NSS Volunteer on Rajpath for RD parade

Ms. Shivani Thakur, a National Service Scheme (NSS) Volunteer from the Department of Environmental Sciences Central University of Jammu has been selected to participate in the Republic Day Parade on Rajpath, New Delhi. She will also be performing a Dogri dance at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 27th January displaying Jammu culture. She is the first student to be selected to RD Parade from the CUJ representing NSS. Daughter of Sh. Karnail Singh who is a truck driver and Smt. Rama Rani who is a housewife, Shivani comes from a very humble background, residing in Gangyal sector of Jammu. Her talent was first identified when she led the girls’ contingent in the last RD Parade held at CUJ campus. On the sidelines, of the RD Parade, she has also performed a cultural performance at the PM’s residence at 7 RCR, New Delhi on 24th January, 2017.

Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu congratulated her for bringing laurels to the university and appreciated the NSS Unit for making great leap within short span of time. Dr. J.Jeganaathan, Programme coordinator of NSS said that NSS volunteers has been participating in the various events at national level for the past two years and this would motivate and inspire other students to actively engage in co-curricular activities.
