Sensitization, Prevention and Redressal of Sexual Harassment Committee (SPARSH), Central University of Jammu, organised prize distribution function of series of events held on 20th January 2016. The activities were organised to create awareness among the students, faculty and non teaching staff of CUJ in order to reiterate its commitment towards sexual harassment free work environment.

It is pertinent to mention here that these events organized included Debate and Poetry Competition. Besides a Play entitled “SIKKE KE DO PEHLOO” was also organised.

On the occasion Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri Justice J. P. Singh, Member State Accountability Commission delivered his talk on theme of the awareness campaign Gender Equity. He apprised the audience with Anti-sexual Harassment legislations’ and briefed the audience with the legal aspects related to sexual harassment. He mesmerised the audience with his practical thought provoking insights and suggested everyone to sensitise themselves towards gender issues.

Prof. Rekha Choudhary an eminent academician speaking on the occasion reiterated the Indian values and ethics for protecting women rights. In her interactive session she discussed the common problems faced by women folk with specific cases.

Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor CUJ, during his presidential speech, informed the audience that Central University of Jammu provides a congenial environment for its employees, students and third party. He impressed upon the need to maintain an environment for overall development of the students. As a vision of the University, he said that MHRD guidelines have been adopted at Central University of Jammu in letter and spirit.
Earlier, Prof. Lokesh Verma, Academic Coordinator and Dean Educational Studies welcomed the august gathering. Dr Jaya Bhaisn, Chairperson SPARSH, CUJ spoke about the event and functioning of SPARSH committee in the University premises. She apprised the audience about the events conducted under SPARSH for sensitising the students and faculty on campus. SPARSH is a committee constituted by CUJ to uphold women’s right to protection and address sexual harassment at the work place. She informed that SPARSH Committee at Central University of Jammu provides counselling services for prevention of sexual harassment, it has provided a dedicated mail id along with suggestion boxes and appointment of nodal teachers and gender champions for the promoting gender equity at Central University of Jammu.
