National conference on media closes in CUJ

The two days national conference on “Changing dynamics of media landscape”, organized by Department of Mass Communication and New Media in collaboration with Press Club of Jammu, ended today in the temporary block of Central University of Jammu.


The second day of the event began with the technical session in which faculty members from reputed academic institutions of India presented scholarly research papers on variety of themes. Prof. Shambhunath Singh, Director, School of Mass Communication & Journalism, IGNOU, Rajesh Badal, Executive director, Rajya Sabha Television, Ashwani Kumar, President, Press Club of Jammu and Prof. Ashok Ogra, Director, Appeejay School of Mass Communication, New Delhi assessed their papers and put forth their critical insights.


In the valedictory session, Prof. Deepshikha Kotwal, Head, Department of MCNM gave welcome address. Manish Prakash, Assistant Professor presented the summary report of all the sessions. A short film on the department’s journey by students of Mass Communication was also screened.


In his valedictory address, Rajesh Badal pointed out that good teaching is essential for creation of good leaders. He further said, ‘media has no dearth of opportunities. Students with skills will eventually grab them.’
Prof. Ashok Ogra emphasized on the need of synergy of theoretical knowledge and practice. Speaking about democratization of talent he further added that in the contemporary scenario, with the advancement of technology, everyone could flourish and thrive.


Prof. Shambunath Singh urged students as well as teachers to create an environment and talent which would cater to futuristic needs of media industry. He also stressed on the quality research having utilitarian value for media industry.


Expressing concern over some disturbing trends in media, Prof. Rattan Lal Hangloo, Vice-Chancellor, Allahabad University lectured on the need of cultural praxis to be the cornerstone of any mediated communication. He criticized the sensational aspect of media and urged media persons to turn to civilization teaching for ethical reporting.


In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu, Prof. Ashok Aima stressed on the importance of responsible media to create a bridge between people, geographies and cultures.
Jammu Press Club’s President, Ashwani Kumar gave formal vote of thanks.


Prof. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Sanjit Khajuria, Assistant Director, Jammu Doordarshan, senior journalists Sant Kumar Sharma and MK Bangroo and other dignitaries were also present in the valedictory session.
