The Centre for the Teacher Resource and Academic Support, School of Education, Central University of Jammu, under PMMMNMT in collaboration with National Centre for School Leadership, Department of School and Non-Formal Education, NUEPA organized five days training workshop for DIET principals and lecturers from 30th January to 3rd February 2017. The purpose of workshop is to enable principals from DIET to critically examine their leadership roles and building knowledge, skills and attitude required for transforming schools through leadership. Around 55 principals and lecturers from various DIET’s of Jammu division participated in the workshop.
The concluding Event was graced with the presence of Jenab Naeem Akhtar, Minister of Education, J&K Govt. who has been pioneer in ensuring the cooperation of Central university of Jammu in taking up various programmes for strengthening up the climate integrated efforts of Education Department Jammu & Kashmir State and other nodal agencies looking after the quality education programmes. He called upon the teachers to follow a basic Mantra of teaching that is " Do whatever you can do, with whatever you have and wherever you are". The key focus should be that the teacher must enjoy teaching and the child must enjoy learning. He specifically remarked that the apartheid in terms of render services in different levels of teaching situation needs to removed . the teacher working in a higher secondary school must have willingness to go to primary school and give his best services. The climate of aspiration must be built up with the sense of belongingness and collaboration.
Prof. Ashok Aima, VC of CUJ, in presidential address lauded the efforts of School of Education for taking keen interest in organising workshops and skill development programme for teachers who are the backbone of educational system. He laid emphasis on the point that the core institutional focus should be that of continuous teacher professional development, which would directly/indirectly impact on School Improvement Programmes. Both are important and linked to each other, and converge as they bring back the focus on teachers as central to school quality. He laid emphasis on creating holistic platforms for maximum benefits of efforts put by all the stakeholders.
Earlier Prof. Lokesh Verma, in his welcome address elaborated in details about the purpose of the workshop. He remarked that the major challenge therefore is to guide principals through to move beyond administrative functions to leadership roles, from managerial leadership to transformative and transformational leadership. It is with this understanding that series of professional development programmes need to be designed and teacher education institutes need to take significant role in introducing the concepts of school leadership in their curriculum both at pre-service and in-service level to address the changing world of leadership in school sector.
He further added that school of education had previously organised workshops for DIET lecturers, the present workshop would be first of its kind in being exceptionally for DIET principals which would guide them to move beyond administrative to transformative and transformational leadership in upliftment of education.The function was blessed with the presence of Prof. Ashok Aima, VC of CUJ, Prof. Lokesh Verma, Head & Dean, School of Education, CUJ, Dr. Charu Malik from NUEPA, Dr. J. N. Baliya, Dr. Ritu Bakshi, Dr. Parmod and Dr. Aman Bhardwaj from School of Education of CUJ.

Dr. Charu Malik Resource Person from NUEPA elaborated on various dimensions of leaderships in schools. She emphasized on building effective and cohesive teams , Developing a Vision and Mission for self and DIET, Prioritization of Time, Developing a Personal Development Plan and Circle of Concern and Circle of influence.
Dr J N Baliya Coordinator , Centre for the Teacher Resource and Academic Support, School of Education, Central University of Jammu informed the participants and the guests that that this workshop would generate a new climate of leadership among school administrators whereby they would believe more in collective wisdom and collaborative culture of work and performance.
Dr. Ritu Bakshi compered the proceedings of the programme and vote of thanks was presented by Dr. J.N. Baliya.
