Central University of Jammu organizes Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse

The Department of Social work, Central University of Jammu organised a one day awareness programme on Drug Abuse which was supported by National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The programme was organised to raise awareness among the youth of our city about the drug menace which is endangering the youth at an alarming rate.

Prof Ashok Aima, Vice chancellor, Central university of Jammu was the chief guest of the Programme. He implored the youth to embrace life and avoid the escapist attitude that a drug addict exhibits by depending on drugs. Prof. Lokesh Verma, Head of the Department, expressed the need of conducting more such programmes at the college level to reach out to the youth. Prof. Vishav Raksha, HOD, Sociology, Jammu University addressed the sociological factors that lead an individual towards addiction. Dr. T.R Raina, Former Professor and Head Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, GMC explained the side effects from the medical perspective and emphasised benefits of Yoga in de-addiction. The lecture was followed by an interactive sessions where participants discussed about their queries.

The programme was facilitated by Dr. Nancy Mengi, Mr. Bhat Iqbal, Dr. Ranvir Singh, Mr. Vinay Kumar and Ms. Yangchan Dolma, faculty of Department of Social Work. The programme was attended by large number of students.
