A guest lecture was conducted on Problems & Potentials of the Disabled Persons: A Socio-Legal Perspective under the ambit of Equal Opportunity Cell, Central University of Jammu at its Bagla campus.

Prof. Ashok Aima, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of CUJ graced the event with his presence and addressed the gathering with his presidential remarks that disability lies in the mind of an individual. Quoting the words of Mohd. Iqbal, “Endow your will with such power, that at every turn of fate it so be, that God himself asks of his slave, ‘What is it that pleases thee?’ ”, he said every individual should have will power to face any challenge in life and should always be optimistic about life. He honoured the guest speaker of the day Prof. Vijay Nagpal, Chairman, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Later Dr. Shaveta Kohli, Co-ordinator of the event briefed about the credentials and achievements of Prof. Vijay Nagpal.

Prof. Vijay Nagpal in his lecture sensitized the audience about issues related with the disabled persons. He highlighted the presence of insensitivities of the authorities concerned towards the problems and issues faced by the disabled persons in various facets of life. He emphasized the fact that one should imbibe the habit of giving to the society rather than expecting. He enlightened the audience with his experiences and thought provoking views.

He stressed on the need to be sensitive towards the differently abled people and emphasised that instead of being sympathetic towards them we all should encourage them and make them feel at par with the other people around them. His views definitely created an impact on the mind of the audience and instilled the audience with a “ to do “ spirit to face the hardships and challenges of life in a positive manner.
