A two day “International Conference on Materials for Sustainable Development ICMSD 2022” from Oct 19th – Oct 20th, 2022 was Inaugurated on Wednesday at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) by the Chief guest in the presence of Hon’ble Vice chancellor and all the reputed dignitaries. The ICMSD-2022 was organised by the Department of Nano sciences and Materials under the patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice chancellor (VC), CUJ. An MoU was also exchanged between the CUJ and Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST). Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), and President (elected) Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Delhi graced the occasion as Chief guest. He discussed the 4M’s of Materials Sciences i.e., Mechanics, Materials, Machines, and Manufacturing.

In his presidential remarks Prof. Sanjeev Jain, VC, the CUJ extended his heartiest welcome to the pool of intellectuals, dignitaries, and guests of the event. Dr. B S Bhau, Dean, Research and Development (CUJ), hailed the efforts of the Department of Nano sciences for organizing this 1st International Conference. He highlighted the facilities like ISRO Centre and Kalam Centre in CUJ which will grant exposure to the students and scholars for conducting cutting-edge research

The conference spanned over eight sessions including keynote lectures, plenary talks, invited talks, oral and poster presentations starting with ceremonial lamp lighting followed by the release of “Abstract book” and a welcome address by Dr Vinay Kumar, Chairman ICMSD and HOD, the Department of Nano Science and Materials.

 

Release of Abstract Book of ICMSD-2022

 

The first session of ICMSD started with keynote lecture of reputed dignitary Prof. Sabu Thomas Hon’ble VC, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala who joined the conference in online mode and Prof. Ravindra Pandey from Michigan Technological University (MTU) Houghton, USA. Second session started with one plenary talk of Prof. M R Anantharaman (UGC-BSR) and Prof. S.A. Hashmi and Prof. Kuruvilla joseph (IIST). The first day of ICMSD was ended with the oral and poster presentation of students.

There were three parallel sessions on the second day at Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences, CUJ. The first parallel session was held at conference hall ground floor and second parallel session in the auditorium hall second floor. The first session that was held at ground floor of SDCSS was started by a keynote talk of Prof. K.H Kim, Hanyang University (HYU), Korea. The first parallel session of ICMSD -22 at auditorium hall 2nd floor contains key note talk of Prof. BD Malhotra from Delhi technical University, India and lecture was continued by Prof. O.P. Thakur from SSPL, DRDO, Delhi. and Dr. Praveen Kumar, Head, R&D Exigo Recycle PVT ltd.

After tea, second session was started with the Invited talk of Dr. Mahesh Kumar (IIT Jodhpur) in online mode from Japan. Afterwards lectures were continued by Dr. Pooja Rawat (Kyung Hee University, South Korea), followed by the oral presentation of students. The second session was started in the presence of Prof. M.R. Anantharaman (Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin India), the talk was continued by MV. Reddy (Nouveau Monde Graphite Montreal, Quebec, Canada), Dr. Naresh (UIET PU Chandigarh) and the last was Dr. Sandeep Arya (University of Jammu). After this, posters were presented by research scholars and students of various institutions at ground floor and second floor of SDCSS, CUJ.

 The valedictory session was concluded by Chief guest Prof. Rajendra Singh Sangwan (Director Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Delhi), the oral presentation price was awarded as young scientist award and given to Mohit (University of Delhi) who delivered his oral presentation on the “Biosynthesis of gold Nanoparticles and Analysis of Multiple of twines defects by image segmentation”. Bhawana Bisht was awarded with best poster presentation on topic of “Polymer capped nanoparticles for rapid spot sensing of typhoid fever”. All the respected dignitaries were presented with mementos. Dr. Pawan Kumar, Convenor, Department of Nano sciences and Materials prosed the formal vote of thanks.
