ACTION PLAN

The Department offers a two years Masters Degree Programme in English and Comparative Literature. Choice Based Comprehensive Credit System has been implemented for the Inter- disciplinary courses. The total number of credits the students have to earn is 80. It also offers an Integrated M. Phil - Ph.D. of three and half-year duration. It ensures conducive environment for research and academic excellence with participatory class room atmosphere and close and cordial student faculty relations. It is enriched by the presence of experienced Faculty from diverse backgrounds. The Syllabi and Curriculum have been designed by inviting subject experts in English, Comparative Literature and Contemporary Critical Theory from the best Indian Universities. Teaching is done through Lectures, participatory sessions like Group Discussions, Seminar Paper Presentation, and Debate. Students and scholars are encouraged to build up their knowledge and bibliography by visiting libraries outside the State and also through the internet facility provided by the University. Admission to   both the courses is through All India Entrance Test conducted by CUCET. The Programmes are based on Semester System.

 

The course for M.A English and Comparative Literature is designed to trace the origin and development of Literature in English, Language and Literary Theory across ages, regions and cultures and impart essential knowledge of literary forms, movements and trends. The students are also familiarized with the fundamentals of inter-disciplinary subjects such as tribal, cultural, historical and anthropological studies. The graduates of this course would be trained for careers in English, Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies as well as careers in creative writing, journalism, translation, art criticism, publishing, script writing. The students and scholars would be equipped for higher specialization in the above areas. They would also be sensitized towards conflict and human rights issues.
