I feel honoured and privileged to function as the first full-time Head of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences since October 2017. The Department was established in 2016 with five-year Integrated B.Sc.(Hons.)-M.Sc. Chemistry program under the mentorship of Prof. S. K. Khosa. At present the department offers Ph.D. programme in Chemistry in addition to the five-year integrated programme.

Our faculty members are committed to dedicated teaching and research in various areas including Synthetic organic chemistry, Catalysis, Bioinorganic chemistry, Theoretical and computational Chemistry. The department has received so far 10 externally funded projects from various national funding agencies including DST-SERB, DRDO and UGC with a total cost of ~Rs.4 crores. In addition, the department has been supported by DST-FIST grant of Rs.2.43 crores for the procurement of 400 MHz NMR Spectrometer in 2023. The department provides a creative and supportive atmosphere for student-centered learning and faculty-mentored research. We are proud to see that our students are able to qualify CSIR-NET, GATE and other competitive exams and occupy various positions in well-reputed institutions/industries all over the globe. I am happy to share that, in this short span of time, the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences is being hailed as an important part of the Central University of Jammu. We are committed to make our mark in the realm of chemical sciences in the coming years.
