The Botany Department at the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) holds a pivotal role nationally, pioneering research and academic programs in plant science to cultivate skilled professionals. Beginning undergraduate education in 2016 in Jammu and Kashmir, the department has expanded to offer postgraduate and PhD programs since 2019, bolstering plant science research. Around 50 specialised postgraduate botanists graduate from our department each year in Plant Systematics and Biodiversity, Plant Physiology, Ecology and Resource Management, Plant Pathology, Forensic Botany and Applied Mycology, and Plant Biotechnology.

Moreover, our highly successful Ph.D. program currently involves more than ten scholars in cutting-edge research. Embracing a research-driven ethos, the department collaborates on numerous projects funded by national and international bodies. All faculty members possess Ph.D. qualifications and Postdoctoral experience from reputed institutes. The department shares its research findings and academic endeavours annually through the "Genesis, The newsletter of Eutierria." It regularly hosts prestigious national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops and publishes research papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Students actively contribute to the academic atmosphere through the Botanical Students Association (Eutierria). Despite challenges like limited space due to construction and hilly terrain, we've initiated some new infrastructure. Approval for a new building from the Central University of Jammu offers hope to resolve the space issue soon.

Recognising the immense contributions of our current faculty, university authorities, support staff, Research Scholars and students, the department aims to establish itself as a prominent entity at national & international level. I wish to thank all my department colleagues, especially Dr. Yogesh Kumar, Dr. Deepak Bhardwaj, Dr. Samantha Vaishnavi, Dr. Vikas Srivastava, and Dr. Ashok Kumar and all the guest faculty, for their continuous dedication to the department's growth.
