The Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences (SDCSS), Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Central University of Jammu, has been consistently providing high-quality internship and training opportunities to its students in collaboration with premier national institutions. One of its flagship initiatives is the Summer Internship Programme at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, conducted every year since 2023.
The programme offers undergraduate students of B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics) an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in advanced areas of space science, satellite technology, aerospace systems and communication engineering.
Based on the academic interests, students are assigned to research groups working in areas such as UAV Networks, Satellite-based Internet of Things (IoT), Device-to-Device Communication, 6G Satellite Integration, Radar Signal Processing, Nano-Satellite Development, Advanced communication systems and space electronics.
These internships provided practical exposure through laboratory training, research projects, technical discussions and interaction with experts. A major highlight was the participation of students in Nano-Satellite Development activities, enabling them to understand satellite design, subsystem integration, payload development, testing and mission planning.
Encouraged by the success of the programme, SDCSS has institutionalized the Summer Internship Programme at IIST as an annual activity under the MoU between IIST-CUJ, every year since 2023, batches of meritorious B.Tech. ECE and ECE (Avionics) students have been nominated for summer internships at IIST, strengthening the academic collaboration between the Central University of Jammu and Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram.
The continued success of this initiative reflects the University's commitment to experiential learning, research excellence, innovation and preparing students for careers in the space, defence and high-technology sectors. Today, the IIST Summer Internship Programme stands as one of the flagship student development initiatives of the Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Central University of Jammu.
