Event: Botany Department, CUJ celebrates Baisakhi


To mark the occasion of Baisakhi, Euterria, the Botanical Society of the Department of Botany at the Central University of Jammu, organized Pushp Mela-2023. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Devanand Padha, Dean of the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, CUJ, and Prof. Namrata Sharma from the Department of Botany, University of Jammu. They were joined by Prof. B.S. Bhau, Dean of the School of Life Sciences and Head of the Department of Botany, CUJ, and Prof. Sunil Dhar, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences.
The Pushp Mela featured various competitive events, including a Flower show, Flornaments (innovative ornaments crafted from flowers and plant material), and Digital Flora. More than 100 students and scholars from different departments enthusiastically participated in these competitions.
Prof. Devanand expressed his appreciation for Prof. B.S Bhau, Dr. Sakshi Bhushan (Event coordinator), all faculty members, and students involved in organizing the event. He encouraged the department to make it an annual occurrence and transform it into an outreach initiative for the local village community. This, he believed, would help raise awareness about innovative uses of flowers. Prof. Namrata Sharma, who served as a judge for the Flower show, congratulated the department and commended the students for their enthusiastic participation and creative ornaments.
The winners were announced for each category, with Ms. Sejuthi, Integrated M.Sc. Botany, Sem-10, winning The Flower Show, Ms. Shiksha Tadia and Ms. Ritika Rajput, Integrated M.Sc. Botany, Sem-10, securing the Flornaments category, and Ms. Ritika Rajput emerging victorious in the Digital Flora competition. Second, third, and consolation prizes were also awarded.
